A harbor protection system technology was demonstrated in Lake Erie in Pennsylvania. US Seismic Systems Inc. laid underwater fiber-optic sonar system that can detect small craft entering a protected area. USSI's system were able to detect 100 percent of the intrusion attempts at ranges as far as 2.5 miles. The technology is likely to be used in a harbor security system to protect the country's 360 commercial ports.
